Physical Rehabilitation Centre - Ampara

The Physical and Mental Rehabilitation, located in the historic Digamadulla district is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka providing facilities for those physically and mentally weak. What makes this centre truly unique is its recent initiative of 'half way homes' or 'villas' where family members are allowed to stay in-house with the patients till the completion of their treatment adding the extra motivation that the patients need to improve in all aspects of their wellbeing.

The Centre is located in a picturesque landscape, surrounded by lush trees and mountains making it an ideal location to stimulate the minds of the patients.

Patients are taken into the care of the rehabilitation centre once their acute illness has settled, where the Consultant, doctors and staff work tirelessly around the clock to maximize the functional capacity of each individual to their optimum physical and mental capabilities through aerobics, physical activites, music and meditation programmes so that once home they are able to lead a close to normal life as possible.

Our Leadership

Dr. P.K.C.L. Jayasinghe
The Director

It has always been my aim to ensure that the highest standards of quality are maintained when it comes to health care. I have strived to achieve this in the Eastern Province of Ampara always. As such I am deeply honored to be a part of this endeavor in terms of physical rehabilitation by establishing the first physical rehabilitation center of Ampara. Since the occupation of the majority of people in this province are physically demanding and as such any physical disability encountered can be devastating not only to the individual but also to the individual’s family as all their livelihoods are affected. Therefore it is vital that our health sector provide them with a suitable means to overcome their disabilities in the quickest possible manner ensuring that they receive adequate support and care to do so. I am confident that the highly qualified and well experienced rehabilitation team lead by Dr.M.A.Indika Kulasinghe is beyond capable in achieving this task. I thank the whole team for their continued devotion in tackling this challenge collectively.

I wish them continued success in this endeavor. May the Ampara rehabilitation center be a beacon of hope not only to the Ampara district but an example as well to the rest of the country.

Dr. M.A.I. Kulasighe
Consultant Rhuematalogist

The physical rehabilitation center Ampara is a big achievement for the whole eastern province, as the majority of people are depending on physically demanding occupations. The physical disability can disrupt the family income leading to many societal problems. It is the duty of my team to restore the function to premorbid level or to optimize the quality of life those not able to achieve full remission after disability. I am very pleased to lead the rehabilitation team at rehabilitation center Ampara.

The ideal location of the center for rehabilitation is an added advantage to give ideal care with new hope to the patients who sustained devastating illnesses leading to disability. The devoted and fully trained team is ready to encounter any form of challenge collectively. As the first Rheumatologist and rehabilitation specialist in the eastern province I am privileged to work with such an enthusiastic team.

We constantly strive to better the patients’ physical and emotional status with comprehensive, up to date and evidence based medicine. All our programs are designed to give the maximum care to the patients with available facilities.

The support rendered to the unit by Dr.P.K.C.L.Jayathilake the Director of D.G.H.Ampara is invaluable. If not for his genius planning and administrative strength, this center will not be a success.

I wish physical rehabilitation center Ampara to become a rising sun from east Sri Lanka for physically disabled people.
